Vice President Joe Biden was very personable. He even got in a super soaker battle with a bunch of children and totally lost. After drying off, Woony & Company was able to meet the VP and we even got to have a great picture taken with him!

 This past weekend, two of our artists attended Bodysseycon, a face and body painting convention in Toronto, Canada.  Gathered were hundreds of painters from around the world.  Attendees were schooled in classes taught by 20 of the best instructors known worldwide, including Alex Hansen and Nicholas Herrera, last year’s airbrush winners at the World Body Painting Festival in Seeboden, Austria.

Artists were also given the chance to participate in face and body painting competitions with cash prizes for the first place winners. We can tell you from personal experience, artists know how to have a good time as we partook in evenings with zombie, masquerade and alien invasion themes, complete with nights on the town decked out in our themed paint. We pretty much rocked Toronto and we look forward to applying our new skills to our same quality designs. 

 

Keller Williams Advantage of Rockville Maryland is hosting it’s Third

Annual Casino Nite Event.  If you were there last year, you definitely

know that it will be a blast! There will be no shortage of games of

Casino Nite benefits Mentally, Physically and Emotionally Handicapped

Youths.  All Proceeds from the Casino Nite Bash go to the Young Life

Capernaum Project of Montgomery county.  The funds are used to send

these amazing youngsters to Summer Camp.  This year we want to double

the number of youths we sent last year which was 8.  Come out and

support this cause.

As an extra teaser… here is a photo from my trip last month to Costa Rica. This picture is of one of the top beaches in the world, Manuel Antonio. I have never felt sand so soft in my life… warm waters and tropical breezes! Ahhhh, can’t wait until the summer!

As a face painter, I have been to a lot of birthday parties. By attending so many parties I have learned what works and what doesn’t work. I think the first lesson every parent needs to learn is to not invite more children then they can handle.

We recently threw  a great party for six year old Lesly. There were a whopping three kids there! Lol. I’m sure you can handle more than three children but I want to give you an idea of how the dynamics of a party change depending upon the amount of children.

With Lesly’s princess party, the adults were very engaged in the party. It was very interactive and all the children won great prizes and had a lot of fun. Lesly loved her party.

Having a party of just 3 children was a decision my mom made after 30 years of hosting children’s parties. It proved she had learned her lesson from my 6th birthday party twenty years ago!

My mom threw my cousin and I a joint birthday party. She invited literally each child in both of our classes (class size averaged 25 at our elementary school). Needless to say… we had A LOT of guests! From what I remember, the party went smoothly considering. However, my mom was a clown and had experience entertaining large groups of children.

She planned several activities for us. A haystack treasure hunt, a balloon relay race, and a homemade pinata. She hired ponies but they never showed (another lesson learned, hire reliable entertainment!). She rented a snow cone machine and a cotton candy machine. From my point of view, the party was awesome, and acheived what every parent wants to acheive, she created a lasting memory for me. 

Hay finds are fun festive alternatives to pinatas for autumn parties!

The point is, that party would have been bananas if there wasn’t well planned activities, and a good supply of adults helping to run each event. She had my dad, older sister, and aunts involved in each activity.

My tip for those of you that would like to have a lot of children at your party is to plan activity stations. Instead of trying to get 25 children to cooperate in a Pin the Tail on the Donkey game, have several stations/booths so that the children can pick which activity they would like to focus on at the time.

For instance, when I am face painting, I love when there is a craft station or another activity going on while I am painting. That way I am not slammed with a million little kids wanting to be next! I have done parties with 2 children and parties with 200 children, stations still always seem to work best!

If you are going to run the party yourself, I recommend sticking to around 10 children. Anymore than 20 I suggest hiring a professional, such as myself, to help you keep order

Almost as good as the real thing!

That Coach Bag full of goodies is every teenaged girls dream, heck it’s my dream too! But the purse above is not your average Coach bag… it’s completely edible! I came across that fabulous cake in a CNN article on birthday parties for children. A designer cake is the perfect centerpiece for an awesome party!

Last year, local cake designer, Clara Gold created a shoe cake as a surprise for my aunt’s birthday party. The cake is shown below. The leopard print peep toe pump sat atop a custom shoebox and an ornate hatbox. The cake was intricately detailed that it was complete with a label, Beverly Couture (named after my aunt of course!), a bar code, and gold accents.

When it was time to serve the cake the guests were all in shock! No one believed it was a cake! And even though we were sad to cut the cake… we were happy that we did. The cake was nothing short of amazing! This was not your average grocery store birthday cake, heck, this was not your average gourmet wedding cake! It was the most delicious!
